A session on approaching the people and organisations your work concerns: when in the process to make contact, how to set out the substance clearly enough for a meaningful response, allowing a fair and stated period for reply, recording what was sent and when, and how to reflect a response — or a silence — accurately in the finished piece.

Defamation Awareness for Reporters
A plain explanation of the legal considerations that shape investigative writing in Kenya, aimed at helping you write carefully rather than fearfully. Covers the difference between stating a fact and implying one, why the strength of the evidence must match the strength of the language, the value of proper approaches and accurate quotation, and when to seek qualified legal advice.

Investigation Draft Assessment
A detailed written assessment of a completed investigative draft, working through it assertion by assertion and recording what supports each one. Where support is insufficient, alternative wording is suggested that stays within what the material shows. Also covers whether approaches for comment were adequate and whether the structure leads a reader fairly.
